WATRA attended MWC Kigali 2025, GSMA’s mobile industry and technology event, which held from the 21st to the 23rd of October 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The three-day event, organized by GSMA in partnership with the Ministry of ICT & Innovation in Rwanda, was attended by industry leaders, innovators, regulators, and policymakers, and centered on themes of Connected Continent, the AI Future, Africa’s Digital Frontier, and Fintech. The event aimed to provide a platform for keynotes, panels, and discussions around topics such as agriculture, climate, humanitarian innovation, emerging technologies including AI, and digital inclusion and gender.

In particular, the third day of the event saw the convening of a panel for a Connected Continent Ministerial Programme session titled “Modernising Regulations for the Digital Era”, which explored how future-ready regulation can reduce asymmetries, encourage fair competition, and unlock growth, innovation, and investment across the global digital ecosystem.

Engr. Aliyu Aboki, WATRA’s Executive Secretary, was a panelist for this session and spoke alongside other regulatory experts and important industry voices on proactive regulation, shaping the ecosystem to ensure fairness, transparency, and trust, and the importance of collaboration for faster and more innovative adaptation.
