The WATRA Secretariat had the immense pleasure of hosting a visit from Mr. Rodney Taylor, the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) on the 20th of January 2025 at the WATRA Secretariat in Abuja. The visit centered around a meeting between Mr. Taylor, Mr. Aliyu Y. Aboki, the Executive Secretary of WATRA, and Dr. Joseph Emeshili, Assistant Director of Spectrum Administration at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Co-chair of WATRA’s Working Group on Infrastructure Development.
The meeting fostered dialogue on advancing regional telecommunications development and collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean, with focus on the Caribbean’s efforts to harmonize telecoms and ICT regulation, exchanging ideas on how WATRA’s regulatory framework could provide insights for the Caribbean, and collaboration opportunities between WATRA and CTU. Both leaders emphasized the importance of leveraging synergies to promote digital transformation and regulatory best practices in both regions and developed a roadmap for cooperation moving forward.
