From April 8th to 10th, 2024, delegates representing the telecoms regulatory authorities of West Africa gathered in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau for WATRA’s 22nd Annual General Meeting, graciously hosted by ARN – Guinea-Bissau.
Following the welcoming of delegates and introductory remarks, the first day of the AGM commenced with an insightful capacity building workshop tagged “Discussion on Satellite-Related Issues in the WRC-27 Agenda”, which was coordinated by the Infrastructure Development Working Group, one of WATRA’s 3 working groups.
With the stage set for fruitful discussions, the following two days of the AGM saw delegates receive updates on ongoing projects – including the implementation status of the ongoing ECOWAS Regional Roaming initiative, the activities of the 3 working groups, and ongoing engagements with key partners – and collaboratively reviewed the milestones achieved in the previous year, as well as the proposed initiatives for the upcoming year, culminating in the approval of the 2025 Annual Plan and budget.
Other noteworthy highlights included the appointment of Dr. Cheikh Amadu Bamba Koté, Chairman of ARN –Guinea Bissau, as the new Chairman of the Executive Committee, having the current setup of the Executive Committee as follows: ARN-Guinea Bissau as the Chairman, ARCEP-Togo as the 1st Vice-Chairman and ARCEP – Benin as the 2nd Vice-Chairman.
