Members of WATRA’s three technical Working Groups – Consumer Access and Experience, Cybersecurity, and Infrastructure Development – gathered in Accra, Ghana to attend their first in-person meeting of the year on the theme “Digital Transformation” from July 21st to 24th, 2025, graciously hosted by NCA–Ghana.
The activities of the four-day meeting opened with the welcoming of delegates and introductory remarks from the Executive Secretary of WATRA, Engr. Aliyu Yusuf Aboki, the Director General of NCA–Ghana, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yerenkyi Fianko, and the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations of the Republic of Ghana.
With the stage set for fruitful discussions, the following four days of the meeting saw the participation of the attendees in a number of work sessions coordinated by the Infrastructure Development Working Group, which covered updates on ongoing activities and work plans, talks on topics relevant to the delegates – satellite monitoring systems, call masking and boxing, fibre resilience, and infrastructure funding – and preparations for the soon coming WRC-27 conference. Activities of note at the meeting also included a presentation on Infrastructure GIS systems from GE Vernova.
The meeting concluded with the reaffirmation of participants to continued collaboration and meetings, particularly in the Working Group’s virtual meetings, and to the Assembly’s goals of greater regulatory cooperation and connectivity in the West African subregion.
