In a significant step towards strengthening the connectivity and innovative future of West Africa, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between WATRA and Smart Africa.
Representatives of Smart Africa paid a visit to the WATRA Secretariat in Abuja in September 2024, at which discussions were held regarding the goal of increasing connectivity between African countries, fostering more sustainable development, and WATRA’s possible contributions to those goals. The fruitful discussions at that visit led to an agreement to sign an MoU between WATRA and Smart Africa.
On the 10th of December 2024, the Chairman of WATRA’s Executive Committee, Dr. Amarah Brewah, the Executive Secretary of WATRA, Mr. Aliyu Y. Aboki, and WATRA’s Senior Regulatory Advisor, Mr. Mohammed Kenneh, paid a visit in return to the Smart Africa Secretariat in Kigali, Rwanda, and the MoU was signed between both organizations at this meeting.
The MoU between WATRA and Smart Africa expresses determination to strengthen mutual understanding, collaboration on regulatory coordination, capacity building for regulators, and harmonization of telecoms services across the West African region.
